Early Bronze Medallion Inscribed “Laborare Est Orare” – Christian & Masonic Motto

A bronze oval medallion bearing the Latin inscription “Laborare est orare” (“To work is to pray”), a phrase derived from the Rule of St Benedict and later widely adopted within Christian moral teaching and Masonic philosophy.

The obverse depicts a devotional interior scene with three figures, framed by architectural detailing and scrolling, the legend running around the border. The reverse is centred with a raised cross motif within an oval cartouche, surrounded by further Latin inscription. Fitted with an integral suspension loop, suggesting personal devotional or society use.

Unmarked. With a deep brown patina consistent with age and handling.

An evocative and well-modelled piece, appealing to collectors of religious medals, ecclesiastical objects, and items associated with Christian and Masonic symbolism.
