A decorative pottery bowl by Michael and Barbara Hawkins, North Cornwall artists known for their distinctive studio ceramics. The bowl is of gently flared form, rising from a low circular foot, and is decorated to the interior with a stylised iris design in soft tones of blue, green, and lilac. The flowing floral motifs are outlined with delicate gilt detailing, while a gilt band to the rim provides an elegant finishing touch. The warm ivory glaze enhances the fluidity and decorative appeal of the design.
Signed to the base with the artists’ monogram, the bowl shows light crazing and fine hairline cracks consistent with age and firing. Decorative as well as functional, this attractive piece reflects the strong tradition of late 20th-century studio pottery associated with North Cornwall and would make a pleasing addition to a mixed decorative arts collection.
