W & T Avery Cast Iron Cheese Shop Scales – “By Appointment to the King” – Birmingham (c.1910–1930)
A fine example of early 20th-century W & T Avery cast iron balance scales, produced in Birmingham and stamped with the prestigious “By Appointment to the King” royal warrant — confirming manufacture during the reign of King George V (1910–1936).
These traditional grocer’s and cheese shop scales feature a robust cast iron frame, a clean white ceramic weighing plate, and a full complement of original stacked cast-iron weights. Classic Avery craftsmanship makes this a highly collectable and decorative functional antique.
