An early 20th-century candlestick telephone
With brass and blackened metal fittings, the circular base fitted with rotary dial, rising to a vertical stem with transmitter mouthpiece and separate ebonised receiver on hook, with original cord. Candlestick telephones of this type were widely used in Britain in the early decades of the 20th century, prior to the introduction of combined handset designs. (1)
