Decorative Model Sailing Ship, Probably Carved Horn
A decorative model sailing ship, probably carved from horn, the warm translucent material forming the hull, masts and sails, carefully cut and assembled with fine rigging, the blackened hull detailed with applied dot decoration and raised on a shaped stand. The use of horn gives the model a distinctive tonal variation and light translucency, characteristics associated with late 19th or early 20th century export or souvenir pieces. An unusual and visually striking object.
