These 19th-century Japanese Imari porcelain plates feature hand-painted underglaze blue decoration. Each plate displays a central medallion depicting a pair of long-tailed birds, such as peacocks or cranes, within a garden landscape of stylized rocks and flowering plants. The rim is adorned with a complex border of alternating panels containing geometric diaper patterns and floral sprays within cartouches. The form consists of circular plates with a shallow well and a molded, slightly scalloped rim. There are no maker’s marks on the underside, though the reverse of the rim is decorated with simple hand-painted blue floral and scroll motifs. Dimensions: Diameter: 8.5 inches.
Condition report:
Both plates exhibit several small chips and fleabites along the outer rim. There is minor surface wear, kiln grit, and discoloration on the foot rim consistent with age. No major cracks or professional repairs are visible.
