Craigie Aitchison (1926–2009) – Exhibition Catalogue Paintings 1953–1981 with Signed Postcard, Arts Council of Great Britain
Rare original exhibition catalogue published for the Craigie Aitchison retrospective, 1981–82, issued by the Arts Council of Great Britain to accompany exhibitions at the Serpentine Gallery, London, and touring venues including Nottingham, Portsmouth, Milton Keynes and Bolton. The catalogue illustrates key works from 1953–1981 and includes examples of Aitchison’s celebrated crucifixion and landscape paintings.
Included with the catalogue is a handwritten and signed postcard by Craigie Aitchison, dated 23 March 1984, thanking the recipient for framing one of his posters. The note is signed “Yrs, Craigie”, providing a personal piece of correspondence from the artist.
A desirable pairing of exhibition ephemera and autograph material relating to one of Britain’s most distinctive modern painters.
