A Hand-Carved Wooden Folk Art Figure of a Basket Carrier
A rustic hand-carved wooden figure depicting an elderly man in traditional rural attire, likely of European or Quebecois origin. The subject is portrayed with a prominent moustache and a downturned expression, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and a long, textured coat. He carries a large pannier or hotte on his back, characteristic of a mountain labourer or mushroom picker. The piece exhibits visible chisel and tool marks throughout the natural, unvarnished wood surface. The hands are positioned as if originally holding an accessory, such as a staff or walking stick, which is now absent.
