Continental School, ‘A Narrative Genre Scene of Two Women’, (Unsigned), Print
Continental School, late 19th or early 20th century, oil on textured board, PRINT. A narrative genre scene depicting two women in Continental-style dress in a tiled courtyard; one figure in a rose-coloured skirt and white shawl leans in to whisper to her companion, who wears a green floral dress and a lace headpiece. A third figure is partially visible in a darkened doorway in the background. Executed in a fine, academic style with controlled brushwork. Unsigned. Housed in a deep-profile, ornate gilt-wood and composition frame. The verso is covered in torn grey paper and bears a printed label for a British firm of Carvers and Gilders, Picture Makers and Restorers.
