20th Century Royal Satsuma Style Gilt and Moriage Earthenware Charger
A mid-20th century Royal Satsuma style earthenware charger of dodecagonal form with a scalloped rim, produced in China for the export market. The central circular reserve is hand-painted in overglaze polychrome enamels, depicting a traditional garden scene with two female figures and a child beneath a flowering cherry blossom tree. The composition is set against a cream-coloured ground featuring a fine network of crackle glaze. The wide, ornate border is densely decorated with intricate floral scrolls, circular medallions, and tomoe motifs, further enhanced with raised white and gold enamel moriage beading. The reverse bears a red hexagonal stamp marked MADE IN CHINA and SATSUMA STYLE surrounding a central four-character mark, alongside a faint circular 2 mark. Diameter: 25.5 cm.
