Description
Claudia Ancilotti, ‘Still Life with Chinese Lanterns and Opera Titles’, Mixed Media (Signed)
An original mixed media work on heavyweight, textured wove paper by the contemporary artist Claudia Ancilotti. The composition depicts a branch of Chinese lanterns (Physalis) emerging from an earthenware vase beside a shallow bowl, set against a background of classical serif lettering referencing operatic titles such as ‘La Bohème’, ‘Amadeus’, ‘Salome’, and ‘Medea’. The artist has employed a combination of watercolour and bodycolour (gouache), further embellished with two applied gold leaf squares featuring embossed leaf motifs. The work is float-mounted to highlight the natural deckle edges of the paper. Signed ‘Claudia Ancilotti’ in the lower right corner. Housed in a decorative silvered and gilt-toned frame featuring beaded and acanthus leaf mouldings. The verso is finished with a hardboard backing and hanging wire, bearing the handwritten reference ‘C137/20’.
