A 19th Century Provincial Hardwood Hall Chair
A 19th century provincial hall chair constructed from a light-toned hardwood, possibly fruitwood or oak. The chair features a curved tablet-shaped top rail supported by upright stiles. The central decorative splat is carved with lobed elements flanking a central rectangular boss. It has a solid panelled plank seat. The front legs are ring-turned and tapered, while the rear legs are of square-section swept sabre form. The construction utilises visible mortise and tenon joinery. No maker’s marks are visible on the frame or underside.
