Troika Pottery “Calculator” Plaque, Designed by Benny Sirota, St Ives Period (c.1965–1970)
A highly sought-after Troika pottery wall plaque of the celebrated “Calculator” design, created by founding designer Benny Sirota during the important St Ives period of production. The plaque features Sirota’s distinctive geometric relief composition, comprising a raised grid of square elements beneath a circular panel, executed in richly textured glazes of deep blue, earthy brown and stone tones. The bold, architectural arrangement reflects the strong brutalist aesthetic and mathematical influence that defined Sirota’s work and the early identity of Troika.
The reverse bears the Troika St Ives mark together with Sirota’s characteristic “stroke” signature, confirming its production during the firm’s highly regarded early years prior to the move to Newlyn in 1970. Works from this formative period are particularly prized for their experimental forms, tactile surfaces, and strong modernist design language.
A striking and collectible example of mid-century British studio ceramics, equally appealing to collectors of Troika pottery and enthusiasts of modernist design.
Excellent vintage condition with no visible cracks or chips. Glaze vibrant and well preserved.
