Description

This set of Art Deco period porcelain comprises a pair of large twin-handled lidded tureens and several matching twin-handled lidded bouillon bowls. The items are confirmed to be Victoria Schmidt mark used till 1927. Each piece is decorated with a uniform monochrome apple-green glaze. The handles, finials, and rims are finished with gilt-painted highlights. The larger tureens are of compressed circular form, raised on four small gilded feet, featuring blocky angular handles and circular disc finials. The matching smaller bowls have flared bodies, curved handles, and stylised leaf or bud-shaped finials. The bases bear the green printed mark of the Victoria Porcelain Factory (Schmidt and Co.) of Altrohlau, Bohemia, consisting of a crown symbol above the word Victoria. The pieces are also marked Foreign, a requirement for goods imported into the United Kingdom, and bear the numbers 262 and 251.

Condition report:

The service is in good overall condition commensurate with age and use. There is visible rubbing and wear to the gilt-painted surfaces, particularly on the handles and the raised areas of the finials. The green glaze is generally bright, with some minor surface scuffs and small dark inclusions or pepper spots from the firing process visible upon close inspection. No significant chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
