Lot 136:
Description
A hand-painted ceramic figurine of a parrot or macaw in the Tonala folk art style of Jalisco, Mexico. The piece features a seated posture with a colour palette of cobalt blue, forest green, and ochre on a speckled greyish-white ground. The decoration includes stylized floral medallions on the shoulders and intricate feather patterns on the wings and tail. The underside of the body near the tail is hand-marked MEXICO F.M. The base is unglazed and features a central circular aperture. This style is characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century workshops in the Tonala region, often associated with the tradition of artists such as Ken Edwards.
