Lot 137:
Description
A lot consisting of two vintage ashtrays of varying materials and styles. The first is a two-piece glazed earthenware smokeless ashtray, a form frequently associated with Moroccan ceramic production. It features a circular base with a central post and a removable lid with three cigarette rests and a central aperture. The piece is decorated with a hand-painted repeating scale pattern in green, yellow, and red. It bears the hand-painted inscription Hotel Conca Park on the lid and interior base, identifying it as a souvenir from the hotel in Sorrento, Italy. The second item is a small cylindrical metal pot with a domed lid, cast in a white metal alloy. The exterior is decorated in the Egyptian Revival style with relief motifs including hieroglyphs, deities such as Anubis, and stylized floral patterns. The lid is surmounted by a finial in the form of a pharaoh’s head.
