An original broadsheet edition of the Chicago Herald-American newspaper, dated Thursday, 10 February 1949. This Diamond Edition features a prominent two-colour front-page layout with the primary headline Truman Blasts Cardinal Trial printed in bold red ink, reporting on President Truman’s condemnation of the trial of Cardinal Mindszenty in Hungary. Other lead stories on the front page include SEIZE PRECINCT CAPTAIN AS BANDIT, 33 Ace Cops Hunt Milkman’s Killer, and Start Roundup of S. Side Hoodlums. The reverse side, page 3, contains a contemporary celebrity news report titled Mitchum Mops in County Jail as Lila Mopes, concerning the incarceration of actor Robert Mitchum following a marijuana-related conviction. The masthead identifies the publication as An American Paper for the American People, published at Hearst Square.
