Description
A pair of early 20th-century postcards, framed to display the verso with stamps, postmarks, and handwritten correspondence. The first item is a Raphael Tuck & Sons Oilette series postcard, number 23, from the Picturesque Counties – Oxfordshire set. It features a printed historical description of Witney and bears a green halfpenny stamp with a Witney postmark dated 10 June 1907. The handwritten message is addressed to Miss Janet Jarratt, c/o Miss Hobson, St. Michaels School, Malton, Yorks. The second postcard is published by Brice & Son, High Street, Witney, bearing an Oxford postmark dated 1908 and a halfpenny stamp. It is addressed to Miss E. B. Harrison, Farnsfield, Southwell, Notts, with the message Best love. Both cards are presented in glazed light wood frames; the top card is set within a gold-toned mat and the bottom within an off-white mat. A small black dealer label on the upper frame identifies the item as an early postcard.
