Description

A pair of cylindrical tinplate advertising containers for Nescafé Instant Coffee, dating to the mid-20th century. Web intelligence identifies this specific design as being associated with WWII era field rations and military surplus. Each tin features a press-fit lid with lithographed graphics including the brand name Nescafé with an elongated horizontal bar on the N, a central white downward-pointing triangular motif, and the words Instant and Coffee curved along the lower edge. The bodies of the tins are constructed with a vertical seam, with one tin retaining some original silver-toned finish along the seam. The bodies are currently devoid of legible branding or text.

Condition report:

Both items are in a heavily weathered, as-found condition. There is significant and widespread surface oxidation and rust across the lids and bodies. The original exterior finish on the cylindrical bodies has largely perished, revealing a dark, patinated metal surface. Despite the corrosion, the lithographed text and graphics on the lids remain legible. The interiors have not been inspected but likely contain similar oxidation.
