Description

This lot comprises two wine or decanter labels produced by the Birmingham firm Deykin and Son. The first is a sterling silver label for Port, featuring a rectangular form with a decorative shell and scroll border in the rococo-revival style. The centre is engraved with the word PORT in capital letters. It bears a full set of British hallmarks including the maker mark D and S, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, and the date letter l for 1910. It is suspended from a simple oval-link silver chain. The second is a silver-plated label for Sherry, designed in a crescent shape with ornate Regency style decoration. The design features a central leopard or lion mask in high relief, flanked by vine leaves and grape clusters. The word SHERRY is rendered in raised relief along the bottom curve.
