Description
A set of four sterling silver decanter labels by J.B. Chatterley and Sons Ltd. The set comprises labels engraved for Sherry, Whisky, Gin, and Brandy. Each label is of rectangular form with canted corners and a double-line reeded border. The titles are engraved in a sans-serif capitalised font. Each label is suspended from a sterling silver curb-link chain. Each piece is struck with a full set of British hallmarks to the front upper edge. The hallmarks include the maker mark JBC over &S within a shield-shaped punch for J.B. Chatterley and Sons Ltd, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, and the lion passant for .925 sterling silver. The Whisky, Gin, and Brandy labels are marked with the date letter z for 1949. The Sherry label is marked with the date letter g for 1956.
