Lot 181:
Description
A wide band ring fashioned from a British pre-decimal one penny coin. The item is constructed from a bronze or copper alloy through a cold-forging process. The exterior of the band retains original numismatic details, including the relief digits 1917 and a beaded border from the original coin edge. This style of jewellery is characteristic of trench art or folk-made commemorative items. The ring is presented in a dark green leatherette box with a white satin-lined lid and a green velvet-style insert, featuring a handwritten paper label reading 1917 ONE PENNY.
