Lot 22:
Description
A collection of decorative hand fans of Chinese origin, likely dating to the mid to late 20th century. The group includes folding paper fans and feather fans. The first folding fan features a red paper leaf with a gilt-coloured border, decorated with two large hand-painted black calligraphic characters, 風 (wind) and 帆 (sail). It is mounted on light-toned wooden sticks. The second folding fan has a gold-toned paper leaf decorated with traditional ink and wash paintings of the Four Gentlemen (bamboo, plum blossom, orchid, and chrysanthemum). This fan includes multiple columns of calligraphic inscriptions and several red square seal marks, mounted on dark-stained wooden sticks. The collection also includes a fixed-mount fan with a semicircular arrangement of red feathers on dark sticks, and a folding fan with layered black feathers on decoratively pierced black sticks, finished with a red cord tassel.
