Lot 25:
Description
A trio of Hungarian folk art earthenware pottery pieces, comprising two plates and one bowl. One piece bears a gold foil label for the Népi Iparművészeti Tanács (Council of Applied Folk Arts), which served as the official body for authenticating traditional craft standards in Hungary during the mid-to-late 20th century. The first plate features a cream-coloured slip ground with a hand-painted central bird motif in terracotta and green, framed by a dark green ten-pointed star border with dot terminals. The second plate is designed with a scalloped rim and features terracotta-coloured slip-trailed floral and foliate patterns against a dark brown slip ground. The third item is a deep bowl decorated with fine concentric bands in metallic gold and dark brown glazes, producing a lustrous finish. The reverse of the red clay body shows the aforementioned gold label and a secondary paper label marked 300p.
