Lot 34:
Description
This collection consists of an assortment of Japanese and English ceramics decorated in the Imari palette, primarily dating from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The Japanese Imari porcelain, also referred to as Arita ware, is decorated with underglaze blue, overglaze iron-red, and gilded highlights. The group includes four shallow plates with scalloped rims featuring alternating panels of floral motifs and mythical beasts around central floral medallions. Teaware and serving pieces include a lidded teapot with floral spray decoration and two small bowls of varying depths with panelled designs. The porcelain vases comprise a tall flared-rim example with floral and geometric patterns, a long-necked bulbous vase decorated with a bird amongst peonies, and several miniature vases and scent bottles. The long-necked vase features two stylised hand-painted characters in red enamel on the base.
The Satsuma earthenware is represented by a cylindrical vase featuring two panels depicting figures in a landscape setting, bordered by elaborate brocade patterns on a cream-coloured glaze. Also included is a large red-ground vase with relief-moulded and gilded decoration of autumn leaves and flowers.
The English ironstone is a large hexagonal-bodied jug with a blue handle, decorated in a British interpretation of the Imari style. The base of the jug bears a blue transfer-printed mark featuring the Royal Arms crest with the word IRONSTONE.
Tall flared-rim vase: approximately 25cm – 30cm height.
