Description
A collection of UK Royal Mail First Day Covers dating from approximately 1983 to 1988, presented in a blue Stanley Gibbons Malvern Cover Album. The collection features a variety of commemorative issues including British River Fishes (1983), Commonwealth Day (1983), British Engineering Achievements (1983), British Fairs (1983), Christmas (1983 and 1985 Pantomime), the 1984 London Economic Summit, Greenwich 1884-1984, Industry Year 1986, Sport (1986), the Royal Wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson (1986), British Architects in Europe (1987), St John Ambulance (1987), and Edward Lear’s Verse for Children (1988). The multi-coloured perforated stamps include denominations of 12p, 15p, 16p, 17p, 19p, 20p, 22p, 26p, 28p, 29p, 31p, 32p, 34p, and 35p. Each cover is cancelled with a circular date stamp (CDS) from the Exeter District marking the first day of issue. The covers are hand-addressed to a recipient in Exeter and are accompanied by Royal Mail information cards providing technical details such as designer, printer, printing process (primarily photogravure or lithography), and perforation gauge (typically 15 x 14). The items are housed in transparent protective sleeves within a three-ring binder system.
