An Assortment of Vintage Figurative Ceramic Whistle Egg Cups
An assortment of vintage figurative ceramic pieces; they are whistle egg cups, featuring various novelty designs including a steam locomotive, a rabbit, a soldier, Humpty Dumpty, and several birds. Each item is constructed from glazed earthenware with hand-painted polychrome decoration and incorporates an integral whistle at the rear. This type of scarce novelty tableware possibly dates to the 1920s. Several pieces in the collection bear circular red stamps on the base, although the characters are not clearly legible.
