Terms & conditions

Definitions

“Lanora House Auctions Limited” (“the Auctioneer”) conducts the sale.

“The Vendor” is the person instructing the Auctioneer to sell items.

“The Purchaser” (“the Buyer”) is the successful bidder who agrees to purchase goods at auction.

Bidding

All bidders must register with their full name and postal address prior to bidding. Proof of identity may be required.

By placing a bid—whether in person, online, by commission, or by telephone—the bidder confirms acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.

Bid increments are set solely at the discretion of the Auctioneer. The Auctioneer reserves the right to refuse any bid.

The highest bid at the fall of the hammer constitutes a legally binding contract of sale.

Commission (absentee) bids may be accepted at no additional charge. Items will be purchased as cheaply as possible, subject to reserves and competing bids. If two identical commission bids are received, priority is given to the first received.

Commission bids must state a maximum bid. Unlimited bids will not be accepted and must be submitted by 10:00am on the day of the sale. While every effort is made to execute commission bids correctly, the Auctioneer accepts no liability for missed or incorrect bids.

Telephone bidding may require written confirmation at least 48 hours before the sale. The Auctioneer cannot be held responsible for missed or interrupted telephone connections. Telephone bidding is not normally available for lots with a starting bid below £50.

All bids exclude buyer’s premium.

All items are sold “as seen.” This includes all faults, defects, wear, imperfections, and any inaccuracies in description. The Auctioneer accepts no responsibility for the age, authenticity, origin, condition, or quality of any lot.

Buyers are strongly advised to inspect items in person prior to bidding. All commission and telephone bids are placed entirely at the bidder’s risk.

Admittance

Lanora House Auctions Limited reserves the right to refuse entry to the premises or to any auction event without explanation.

Buying & Payment

The Auctioneer retains full discretion over the conduct of the sale and may settle disputes or re-offer disputed lots.

The Auctioneer may bid on behalf of the Vendor when a reserve price has been set.

No item may be removed until full payment of the hammer price, buyer’s premium, and any applicable charges has been received.

Payment must be made within 48 hours of the sale (or invoice issue, whichever is earlier). A late payment charge of £1 per day will be applied after this period until payment is received in full.

Purchased items must be collected within 10 days of the sale unless otherwise agreed. Storage charges of £2 per day per lot may apply, together with any transport costs.

The Auctioneer accepts no responsibility for loss or damage after the fall of the hammer.

If payment remains outstanding after 12 days, the Auctioneer reserves the right to cancel the sale and re-offer the item. Any losses, fees, or expenses incurred may be recovered from the original buyer.

Items paid for but not collected within 5 days will accrue storage fees. Once storage charges equal the purchase price, the item may be resold with no refund due.

Defaulting buyers may be permanently banned and reported to other auction houses via the Easy Live Auction platform.

Selling (Vendor Summary – for reference)

Vendor payments are normally made within 14 days of the sale, subject to buyer payment.

Vendors confirm legal ownership of all consigned items and agree to the applicable seller’s commission.

The Auctioneer acts solely as agent and is not responsible for buyer default.

Unsold items must be collected within 5 days unless otherwise agreed.

Droit de Suite (Artist’s Resale Right)

A royalty may be payable on qualifying artworks sold for €1,000 or more. The buyer is responsible for all ARR fees. These fees are not subject to VAT.

General Conditions

If a visitor damages a lot, the Auctioneer may charge the cost of restoration, the reserve price, or sell the item and recover the difference.

Lanora House Auctions Limited reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions at any time. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of the current terms.

Third-Party Liability

Visitors enter the premises at their own risk.

The Auctioneer accepts no responsibility for loss, injury, or damage except where caused by proven negligence.

All vehicles are parked on-site at the owner’s risk.
